I tried really hard to find a good youtube about reading, libraries, or books not much luck - i probably could have if I wanted to view 100's of videos.
So I found something on thrift store shopping! I may go back and look up more about this on my own time they had some good suggestions

Week 9 Thing 23

DONE and Done!
I realize that blogs are the future but they are still overwhelming. Even when I am looking up information for myself or for a patron and use google - they are offering more and more blog entries. The problem is weeding through all of them to get to the stuff you want.I am glad I had to do this exercise (yes even with all the grumbling) becasuse there is no use fighting it, blogs are here to stay! As you can see from my blogs, I love "flickr" words are wonderful but sometimes a picture adds some fun.

We definitely crossed the finish line as a group! Thank you to everyone at the Charlotte Hall Branch I couldn't have done it without you!!!!!

Week 9 Thing 22

What a great week to be learning about downloading audiobooks - I had already planned to download a book for this weekend. I will be traveling with my husband and 2 boys, a good book will save my sanity on the car ride. So many more books are available to me by downloading to my MP3 player, I'm very excited to use this service offered by the library.

Did not find podcasts useful. I spent a lot of time trying to find anything useful to put on my Bloglines - it wasn't easy! Also podcasts I found seemed dated - nothing current/



Finally downloaded a podcast about middle school reads - perfect for my son and other kids looking for reading material for book reports.

I think you could spend a lot of time browsing youtube. I put in key words for library and reading and enjoyed some of the videos - but I can only imagine other key words I couyld use!

I could see using Google docs - I liked the power point and if I had to work with a group for a presentation I think this would be good thing - we could make changes to the slides.

I like Google because already have an account.

Week 7 Thing 16

I liked the Book Lovers Wiki from Princeton Library. I loved reading some of the reviews.
I also liked Library 2.0 in 15 minutes - wish I had yhis sooner. I think I'll be going back to this all the way up to # 23. But 15 minutes? not in my world!!!!
I'm worried about information being changed and edited.

From what I read and saw on the Wiki's I think the Library could use this for book reviews. I know some of the best books I've read I may not have looked at if a patron a hadn't recommended it. Just think about the amount of books I'll be reading when I can get reviews from more sources.
Wiki's would be good for different branches working on projects - its so hard to schedule meetings especially with part time employees.

I read all the perspectives on Library 2.0 I liked " To a temporary place in time" Dr. Wendy Schultz wrote some great things about libraries. She wrote "Libraries are not merely in communities, they are communities." I enjoyed her writing style and could understand everything in the article.
I also liked her vision of the future Library 4.0 - Library 4.0 will add a new mode, knowledge spa: meditation, relaxation, immersion in a luxury of ideas and thought.
Library 4.0 revives the old image of a country house library, and renovates it: from a retreat, a sanctuary, a pampered experience with information—subtle thoughts, fine words, exquisite brandy, smooth coffee, aromatic cigar, smell of leather, rustle of pages—to the dream economy’s library, the LIBRARY: a WiFREE space, a retreat from technohustle, with comfortable chairs, quiet, good light, coffee and single malt. I went into Technorati and played around as suggested. I liked the look of Blog Directory - it showed "fans" was nicely organized not overwhelmimg.
Keyword search in Blog Posts gave too many hits!
Keyword search in tags was ok I could work with it. I LOVED the picture of the cake that came up on the first page! It felt good to smile about Technorati!

Found Top Searches very interesting - you can see what everyone's into - Music and electronics.

Dazed and confused!

The Del.icio.us tutorial was disabled when I went to view it - I like tutorials and this may have helped me understand more. I don't see me using this - I think it was overwhelming!

Someone explained to me about the accessing my bookmarks from various computers which might be helpful because we do do a lot of computer sharing at this branch.

I can see where Rollyo is useful. I do a lot of displays for the library so I liked putting helpful links on my blog. I usually get an idea and than look for graphics on 1 site and quotes on another, now I just type in a word and both websites bring up related items.

Love library thing - it's great seeing who enjoys books similiar to mine. I love that I can put the books and especially the covers on my blog. I did think about adding some classics or a couple popular authors but I am who I am - a Romantic ! I read for pleasure and romance and light reading is my pleasure

Now this was fun! I really enjoyed this task. Actually putting it on the blog from yahoo took some thought but I had fun making my avatar. I was a little upset that all the girls seem to be thin but then I found out that they do have a full figured feature. Of course I didn't want my avatar to be have to exercise and diet as much as I do so I went for the thin one - if only it was that easy in the real world.
I could see me changing my avatars to match the mood of my blog!

Checked out the feeds that were suggested - really enjoyed Topix.net. Was very intimidated with the word"Zillions" jumping out at me form the home page of Technorati. It had too much!
I tried using a search for "Decorating" it gave me anything and everything to do with decorating.
was also a little upset because a post on the first page had foul language - wasn't expecting that.
I'll have to see if there is a way to filter these type of posts.
Feedster was ok, I liked how you could put limits on your search.

I hear Avatars are next so I'm excited to finish RSS feeds and go on to week 5. Next time you read me I should have a really cool avatar.

I set up my bloglines account and added some rss feeds. I just added feeds from the list they suggested, I later found out you can use your interests to get a list of feeds. I liked a lot of what I picked form the orginal list but I am definietly going to add or delete feeds as I see what really suits my needs.

Number 3 thing 6&7

I didn't have too much trouble loading a picture into my blog from flickr but... reading about mashups and web apps was a little confusing.
I was intriqued by Flickr Color Pickr - I would like to learn more about this and how I would apply it to my library life.



One thing I like about technology is the digital camera, it has made my job easier. I use the digital camera to take pictures of displays throughout the library. As soosn as the picture is taken I can print it out and put it in a display journal. Last week when I was in need of a book display idea, I went to my journal and decided to reuse one from over a year ago.

week 3 thing 1&2

After rereading 7 1/2 habits I've decided the hardest thing is going to be the technology. I am not comfortable with technology, I am always afraid of punching the wrong key or crashing a computer. I hope to use habit # 4 "Have confidence in yourself " throughout this blogging process and by the end firmly believe in habit # 6 Use technology to your advantage. Technology ashould make your life easier
